Allow approximately 45 minutes to complete the loop and an additional 20 minutes for the upper lookout (this section is steep and stepped in places but the view is well worth the effort and highly recommended) Craters of the Moon is situated just north of Taupo and is 2km from State Highway 1.

Im Jahr 2015 ging Jeremy Nash nach 24 Jahren ununterbrochener Tätigkeit als Vorsitzender des Trusts in den Ruhestand. Seit 2002 muss der Trust für das Craters-Gebiet Pachtgebühren an die Regierung zahlen, und seither werden Eintrittsgelder erhoben. Mit den Eintrittsgeldern werden zwar in erster Linie die Grundstücksmiete und die Kosten für den Betrieb und die Instandhaltung der Grundstückseinrichtungen - zu denen auch die 2 km lange Zufahrtsstraße gehört - gedeckt, doch werden diese Mittel auch zur Unterstützung von Gemeindeorganisationen und der Umweltarbeit in der Region Taupo sowie zur Vergabe von Stipendien an örtliche Schüler verwendet, die ihr Studium an Hochschulen fortsetzen möchten.	Die 364 Tage im Jahr geöffnete Wanderung ist für alle Altersgruppen und Fitnessstufen geeignet und für Rollstuhlfahrer zugänglich. Planen Sie etwa 45 Minuten für den Rundweg und weitere 20 Minuten für den oberen Aussichtspunkt ein (dieser Abschnitt ist stellenweise steil und stufenförmig, aber die Aussicht ist die Mühe wert und sehr empfehlenswert).
